Workshop | Plant Magnifying Glass Ceramics Workshop: Pingpu, Beitou
Guizikeng Soil Conservation Park can be said to be the traditional area of Beitou Society in the past. In the past, the rulers were forced to relocate in order to mine the local white china clay. After the 1930s, white china clay became the main ceramic raw material in daily life in Taiwan. There are also many kilns, stone washers, painters and other industries gathered here. The rapid development also made ceramics an important export industry in Taiwan at that time. However, due to over-exploitation, Typhoon Vera in 1977 caused severe landslides in the area, resulting in many deaths due to the disaster. Since then, the mining of white china clay has been banned in Guizikeng, and it has been turned into a soil and water conservation park to remind the public about the balance between the environment and people. . This workshop invites the public to come to the Dingshe of Beitou Society in Guizikeng to experience this place full of history and stories first-hand, walk on the mountain trails, and experience the ecological environment from geology, landforms, plants, etc., through the on-site clay creation Kneading allows participants to experience the charm of rock and mineral soil, use their hands to knead shapes, use local plants as rubbing materials, and focus on integrating the body and mind with the earth. Let us experience and re-restore the relationship between people and the earth from a historical and cultural perspective. land relationship.
Leader: Ceramicist Li Kuanchi
Since 1991, he has been practicing the theory of ceramic rock and minerals. He has been repeatedly firing rock and mineral soil in firewood kilns for many years. It was discovered that the raw ores have different far-infrared radiation energy, water softening function, and pore thermal conductivity characteristics. Therefore, the creation of It also shows the diverse textures and colors of clay, which are used in many pottery works. Because it is not easy to collect rock minerals, it is necessary to search for long-dormant energy rock minerals in mountains and valleys. Therefore, during the process of searching for soil, I put my body and mind to roll in the nature of the earth and realize the intuitive spirit of aesthetics. His works were selected for exhibition at the History Museum at the 5th Ceramics Biennale, and won bronze and silver medals at the 2nd and 3rd Hecheng Golden Ceramics Awards.

Growing up on a rural island, he is a typical plant person and collector. He loves natural life, collects stories, learns traditional crafts, and creates from life. After going to the Caribbean and Pacific island countries to engage in agricultural technical assistance work, I decided to return to my own island, visit tribes and villages to collect more traditional wisdom on the symbiosis between man and nature, and investigate the island taro culture. Now he has returned to his hometown of Pinglin, New Taipei, to set up a studio for collectors, tidy up old houses and fields, and participate in hosting many art residencies, exhibitions and workshops, introducing resources into the community, hoping to create a permanent community that combines farming, life and skills sharing. Continued studio.
