Imprinted White Clay—Baodegong’s Art Kitchen and Local Connection Project
Prince Chifu, who is enshrined in Baode Palace today, was once only enshrined by the Pan family of the Ketagalan tribe in turn. However, because local believers were impressed by the miracle of Prince Chifu’s healing, in 1971 everyone and the Pan family After family discussion, the family temple became a public temple for public worship and named Baode Palace. The temple was still hosted by the Pan family.
However, due to urban development, MRT construction and land property rights issues, Baodegong was forced to move three times. The iron house currently located on the tributary of Shuimokeng River, locally known as Fanzigou, is the third place where Baodegong is located. Four “homes”. Despite being displaced many times, Baode Palace remains the core of Fanzicuo’s faith. Regardless of geography or local spiritual orientation, it has always been a field for exchanges among local believers.
The kitchen, in particular, is a place where local believers often gather. During holidays, believers often cook, eat and socialize here. Therefore, artist You Mengshu reorganized and designed the Baode Palace kitchen from the existing structure. The rearranged space hopes to recall and attract more local believers. During the artist’s residency, the local community of Baodegong was disturbed and new ideas were injected. The design of the kitchen, in addition to allowing believers to freely use it, is also one of the creative highlights of the temple. The “stove foot” of Baode Palace is set up as a communication platform, combining temple culture, cooking production, environment and ecology, and contemporary art. Participate in the communication field of the temple community.
The core concept of the kitchen design is to open the activity space, which is practical, economical, simple and can be moved at any time. It is suitable for gatherings of friends such as community tribes, temples and temples. It is equipped with a pottery handicraft workshop to interact with residents. Through Japanese porcelain clay kneading and firing, Decorate and beautify the environmental space of Baode Palace, and record the imprint of the Beitou porcelain clay mine mentioned in historical records during the Japanese colonial period. We hope to use the attitude of art and the enthusiasm of the people in the palace to revitalize the original space and make it more It is convenient for neighboring clan members to hold temple fairs and activities.
