Lecture|Connection and sharing: Exploring the present tense of the Ketagalan people

i

Have the Ketagalan people we are familiar with disappeared?
Teacher Peng Ling’s story will reverse this impression imprinted on most people’s minds.

Many years ago, when Mr. Peng was investigating family legends, he accidentally discovered in the household registration information during the Japanese colonial period the “ripe” notation on the race column of his mother’s elders and the special surname of the Pingpu people. This started a journey that lasted several years to trace his roots. Using her historical background to start the investigation, she found family historical materials collected by various parties, such as the last surviving ancient marriage contract of the Ketagalan tribe, family head seals and ancient documents. At the same time, she cooperated with visiting elders to collect field information, and successfully Restore family genealogy that has been forgotten for hundreds of years. Later, Teacher Peng was even more surprised to discover that in addition to being a direct descendant of two generations of leaders of the Tatayo Society, she also had blood from different Ketagalan tribes such as the Tatayo Society, the Li Tribe Society, and the Beitou Society.

Such a special life experience could be any of us. In this series of talks and field trips, Teacher Peng Ling was specially invited to share how to conduct self-investigation and actual field visits. She will also personally lead participants to visit rivers and shallow mountains, experience the river landscape from the traditional domain of the ancestors of the Ketagalan people in the past, and explore the flows and stories of this land at that time from the perspective of ancestors.

This symposium and walking tour is a series of activities. Through the understanding of the lives of our ancestors, we can actually experience the stories brought by the land and bring a deeper experience to the public.
